Motorists have put the brakes on Government plans to reduce motorway speed limits according to a new poll by Motorpoint.
Over 82% of drivers quizzed by the car supermarket giant voted against the prospect of facing permanent 60mph limits on up to 250 miles of the UK motorway network. Over 750 people took part in the snap poll at www.motorpoint.co.uk. According to the Department of Transport, 60mph limits could become commonplace over the next few years. Average speed cameras and sensors buried in the road would regulate speed limits via overhead gantries.
Says David Shelton, Managing Director of Motorpoint: "In spite of the Government's best efforts to control every aspect of motorist's lives, it is clear that reducing speed limits on motorways is a step too far for many of them."
